Initial Daydream is my first RPG for the Panic Playdate! I made it using Pulp, which is a proprietary engine for making little adventure games for the Playdate. Among its many quirks, it has a built in midi system that uses the Playdate's internal synth, not unlike the way NES and Gameboy music was made and played.
The game itself is very reminiscent of early Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy games. JRPGs are responsible for a lot of my favorite music, and for me wanting to be a composer in the first place. It turns out the only way to convince someone to let your score their RPG is to make one yourself. It took a long while and a lot of learning, but here it finally is!
Hopefully this will fit in nicely with other chiptune stuff. It's not the most extravagant chiptune work out there, but I feel that it is true to the genre and era I'm harking back to. Please enjoy!
